    True.

I also find sugar makes me sleepy. I avoid soda and candy on long trips. I can drive all day on water and beef jerky. Assuming a good night sleep of course.

Lots of ways to be impaired.

Alcohol consumption's an easy one to avoid,
and I had a really cool uncle who died young from it which kinda turns me off of the whole drinking and snowmobiling etc.

... then there was my neighbour who accidentally killed himself with a chainsaw while alcohol impaired, that was pretty gross.
... then there was that drunk that drove right at me on ice covered roads :/ did my best not to run over his car but still squished the front driver side pretty flat, last I seen of him the cops were laying a beating on him in the back seat of the cruiser.

That is true. It is safer to set the line at zero.

I knew enough people who are no longer among us because of alcohol, will partake only when there's no chance of me operating a vehicle.

Now that the state of ILL is legalizing pot, who knows what carnage the streets will generate.

Alcohol is proven to change behavior because of judgement. I think this thread is a perfect example.

Since we Californian's lane split, we get close to cars, when they don't expect us (or anyone.) This is where those drivers feel "safe" to do drugs, have sex, or do anything to create a distracted state of mind. And, as long as nothing unusual happens, they can pretty much tolerate that drug/sex or rock-n-roll state of mind (and body.)
It's when something unusual happens, that's when they fold in on themselves. They get to make a split second decision in their state of mind (or body.) This usually results in "less than stellar" results, unfortunately. It occasionally leads to incarceration too...

    NV legalized it.
    I tried the legalized stuff.
    It was expensive.
It took hours to produce the euphoric feeling.
The euphoria lasted a whopping 15 minutes.
Liquor is quicker, cheaper, and lasts a lot longer.

I sincerely doubt legalized pot will ever become an issue on the roads.

I attended a safety summit in Colorado that says differently. Here's a linky.

Note the 112% increase in alcohol/marijuana combined impairments. That was the biggest thing I took away from the seminar; folks using one to counteract the affects of the other in order to drive...in their minds, anyway.

Note that I was referring to LEGAL marijuana. There is still such a thing as illegal marijuana even where MJ is legal, i.e. you can't legally buy Maui Wowie, which is far more potent than the "watered down" legal versions.

Put into booze-speak, the legal stuff would be akin to buying 10 proof Jack Daniels.

For what it's worth, our media is reporting: "No spike in cannabis-impaired driving"

Strangely I've seen fewer people smoking it then before it was legal, although they might be eating it or vaping it so you might not ever notice.

Have also heard comments on the government being 'the worst drug dealers ever'
but we did get some really great commercials out of it:
