Yep, and not ironical at all...it's often associated with dismantle/sawzall/rattlecan "itza bobber dood" bikez, "boiiiiiiiiii".

Unfortunately the OEM versions cost a lot more for the same unimaginative effect.

In the immortal words of Chris Farley (in Tommy Boy)

Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.
Ted Nelson: Go on, I'm listening.
Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside.
Ted Nelson: Yeah, makes a man feel good.
Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?
    Ted Nelson: What's your point?
Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy, well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter's knocked up, I seen it a hundred times.
Ted Nelson: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?
Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time.

My new (at the time) Honda never needed the warranty, although I would question the mechanically sound angle in relation to a fuel pump that catches on fire. I'd like to say that fuel pump issue was the only fuel pump issue I had, but I had other pumps that failed or leaked...four in six failure rate on that bike alone (including the replacement for the one that caught fire). The model was in production for a solid 20 years but Honda waited until after it was discontinued to resolve their fuel pump failures and belt out a replacement part. That's a lengthy timeline for being mechanically sound.

On the other hand, I did acquire a lightly used Kawasaki with a transferable factory extended warranty and the warranty logged more miles than the bike. I considered myself fortunate to get rid of it before the warranty expired.

Yep, ol' Chris got that much right. RIP

Electric fuel pumps belong inside the fuel tank where they can be submerged in nice cool gasoline and not burn up.

I just got transferred to the graveyard shift and will be wearing the indoor uniform. Anyone following along from the first post knows what this means: I'm going back to the false sense of security that the polyester pants offered.
