There may not be a lot of activity here, but the activity is high quality. I get better answers to my questions here. Contributors here may not always agree with each other, but they all give thoughtful answers and may useful comments.

Quality is more important that quantity.

Facebook is still very much alive and well, like any other social media site it remains successful by catering to the lowest common denominator.

The latest viral meme going around is questioning how you get dressed: sock/sock/shoe/shoe or sock/shoe/sock/shoe. Hundreds of shares and dozens of responses on each feed you find it on.

If you want to attract activity, you must cater to idiots with IQs matching their shoe size.

Yeah, I just remember this site was hopping before FB/twit et al. Kinda miss the activity that once was. (I'm on neither FB nor twit.)

The simple fact is that the current trend is social media, and forums are not social media (not by mainstream standards anyways). You can add all the special features you want and it's still a forum, trying to attract social media traffic to a forum is like trying to convince the automotive industry into reverting from FI to carburetors.

Many who are accused of being luddites are not actually luddites, they just believe that the highest tech solution is not automatically the best solution. For some tasks a hand screwdriver works better than a power screwdriver.

For some people, the only kind of screwdrivers are claw and ball peen.

When I raced beach catamarans we called hammers the "Hobie tool". I raced Prindles and we considered ourselves to be more technically capable than Hobie sailors.

Flipped a Hobie 16 on Mission Bay, back in the 1980's. Darn good pair of sunglasses on the bottom now...

There seems to be a ridercoach section on FB. From what I understand, it's become "uncivilized."

That's one nice thing about RETSORG.

See, this is what we need to cater to if we have any hopes of attracting social media users:
