    The lightweight motorcycles are about half the size of traditional bikes, making them easier to use in urban settings.

    ]
    They have an interesting definition regarding "half the size"...you know, compared to an actual half-sized motorcycle:

    It weighs in well under 400 pounds pretty sure they are referring to it being half the weight of the average Road Glide

    Possibly, but the article specifically mentions "size". Maybe they meant to say "displacement" in addition to "weight"? Journalism just isn't what it used to be, anyone with access to the internet can be a journalist now.

    Gotta love the mention of HDFS, where anyone with bad credit can buy a $20K bike at 24% interest compounded over 7-8 years. Either they pay it off and spend over $50K on the bike or it defaults and the dealer makes (another) profit selling it again. Yeah...I know other marks have ridiculous interest rates too but that 7-8 year deal seals it.

    In the end they really need to do something with the Street & Sportster lines if they truly want to "build new riders".

    One of my students defaulted on their loan when they did not like riding with the HOG chapter (If you can't ride with the group there's no reason to ride. You didn't know that/) Anyway, the dealership did not get the bike back. Yes, the bike was brought in, but HDFS had it picked up and carted off somewhere. My guess, it was wholesaled.

    MOTORCYCLES.

    Yet (as I already mentioned) Polaris counted their Slingshot sales as part of their MC sales. Probably on the technicality that they swindled 50 states into believing they are motorcycles despite being physically larger than my mini-truck while sharing nothing in common with a motorcycle and everything with a car...nonetheless they are still NOT motorcycles. With a steering wheel, side by side seating, and seat belts you can't even call it a trike (reverse or otherwise).

    Like I said, if Honda were permitted to count any or all of their not-motorcycle sales with their MC sales they would surely be top dog. Harley counted their former Buell sales separately from their own sales, and ditto when they owned Aprilia or whatever pasta-rocket manufacturer they had in their pocket during that time. Do you know what else they never counted as motorcycle sales? Their golf carts in the 1960s & 70s, although perhaps they should have, like the Slingshot they had three wheels and nothing else in common with a motorcycle. It's a completely different yardstick when you start to include not-MC sales --- whether you shanghaied others into thinking they were motorcycles or not --- with your MC sales, if anything it's a dirty trick to appease their shareholders by padding your figures.

    But, hey...whatever it takes to create fake news these days.

    P.S. Did you know that motorcycles have gull-wing doors too?

    Not a one off custom, it's the 2019 Grand Touring LE model.
    Many states dictated to Polaris that the Slingshots were required by them to be classified/registered as motorcycles. It's not like Polaris got up one day and said "The Slingshot is a motorcycle!" They were told that this is what they HAD to do. YMMV

    Polaris has lobbied heavily in Arizona to get the Slingshot reclassified as NOT a motorcycle. ADOT defines a motorcycle as a vehicle with three or fewer wheels in continuous contact with the ground.

    I distinctly recall reading several MC mags that it was the other way around: Polaris convinced the states that it was a motorcycle. Some of the states put up a lot of resistance (IIRC Texas being the biggest stickler). Then again the MC rags could have been fake news too.

    Whatever the case may be, it's still not a motorcycle and certainly shouldn't be counted as one for MC sales. Otherwise Can-Am should be able to do the same with their Spyders (seeing as they don't actually make any two wheelers, they could "enter" the market with serious aplomb).

    My understanding was, if Polaris didn't get the "motorcycle" designation, they would have had to kill the Slingshot as it does not meet any NHTSA car crash standards.
