    Communication Bike-to-Bike

What communcation devices do you all use?

With the VSTAR, I had a CB set up, used the J&M handlebar CB, put speakers, mic into my helmet. My husband still has a CB radio on his bike. Now with the Kawi Vulcan S, I'm considering getting something.

In a perfect world, all comm devices could speak to each other, but I don't think we are there yet.

What do you have? Recommendations? Suggestions? Your experience with good integration with other devices (GPS on a phone, or a GPS, etc, etc.)

Sena smh10 here. Have about 3 seasons with it. Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity to talk with your phone/GPS. Can pair with multiple (up to 3 others) units. Happy with it so far, their current 20S models have more range and features.

    Closer to a universal communicator.

Sena 20S pairs with Scala G9, and there's a firmware update to allow older Sena 10's to pair cross brands too. https://www.revzilla.com/common-trea...-communication

Thanks for this thread. I have been strongly against getting a set but son has already noted a few times where it would have been nice to have on the 2 rides we've done thus far...and well....I suppose he's right.

Just don't tell him that. He's 15 so he THINKS he's always right, anyway.

We used a couple different versions of Scala. Haven't used them in a long time.

And, here we go again.... I need new communication devices again!

In July 2017, I purchased the Sena 20S. Now it's May 2020, and it's dead, won't charge at all, and did the customer service and chat route, yada yada yada, it is out of warranty. So, the search for something new begins.

Pretty much I use this solo: maps/directions, music, weather. If I ride with hubby, he's got the CB on his Harley Ultra, so I use my Sena to send/receive any cellphone calls and we can communicate that way.

If I stick with Sena's current trade in offer, I can send my broken 20S and get a new 50S or 50R and qualify for a $135 rebate. https://www.sena.com/trade-up-program - and other links are on that site.
Either costs $339. Both are compatible with my current helmet clamp kit. It's actually a pretty good deal for anyone who has a Sena. The difference between the two?
The 50R is a slimmer profile with three buttons.
The 50S is same profile as my 20S with the jog dial.

Considering what I use it for, it seems like a reasonable purchase. I never was very adept with using the Sena because, well, I didn't use it much except for maps and directions. Honestly, I never cared for how you have to finagle the controls on the helmet/the jog dial, and also make sure everything was syncing correctly first, it all always seemed cumbersome to me. When I had the J&M CB Radio set up on my VSTAR, it was so very easy to use, just a simple thumb control.

Which brings me to Sena's handlebar remote, and there are two to choose from. Of course, extra $$$.

So - Does anyone have experience with Sena's handlebar remote?

Still pondering another J&M CB Radio, but it seems a bit cumbersome to stick on the Vulcan S.

As always, thanks for comments & thoughts & ideas - Gerry
