If it's going to be track b**ch, drop the stock chain and go with a lighter weight 420 or 415 chain; less rotational inertia. Racers here also go with a GSXR rear shock.

So you are going to find an unused TZ frame... ?

Looks like fun Terri ... I test rode a R3 last year thinking about getting it for granddaughter. Fun ... !
The best thing you can buy for your motorcycle is gas.

You will LOVE it!!!!! I absolutely LOVED my green '08 250. Sure wish I could've kept it just to have a worry-free bike to play on, but the deal I made with Hubby was sell two/buy one. But our local Kawi dealer has a greenZ125 Pro on the floor that's just begging me to take it for a spin!

I'm itchin' to take my N1K to the track this year after I get my ARC instructor cert so I can see what it'll do (in spite of me), but that'll probably be the only time. Who knows, if I get the track bug, I may have to buy my 250 back (sold it to my "adopted son" who is making bad decisions right now which might force him to sell it) for a track bike.

The plan is to pick it up tomorrow from Spotbeagle's house and bring it home...uh, ride it home.

Thanks for all the mod info. I will start with the basics, suspension, windscreen and maybe levers due to my small hands and just put in some seat time. I will likely change tires when it goes on the track. Dunlop makes a nice track tire.

If I were a serious racer I would totally be concerned with reducing the weight of the bike. If weight was that much of a concern, I would be eating more salad...just sayin'.

The multi line dealer we went to had a dozen R3's on the floor. All were tagged " DO NOT SELL".
Seems Yamaha has a C.A.R.B. Problem....

Probably have better luck with an Aprilia RS frame.
As long as we're fantesizing, we might as well go all out and search for a graphene frame/swingarm combo...

Back to reality, maybe some BST CF wheels?

If you get on the track, prepare to learn at an increased pace. (I'm not talking about riding faster here.)The material you focus on may make you a better motorcyclist. (Understatement of the year, right there.)

Test rode a first gen 250 this weekend - potential beninner bike for someone else - what a total blast! The little girl screaming her heart off at 12000 RPM in the first gear in the middle of the city - yehawwwwww! Nothing is that easy to ride and have tons of fun, nothing!
