HD Claims 49.5% US Market Share

Granted it's only a mid-term report, I still find it a bit difficult to believe considering how historically HD + Honda have typically nailed half the US market for the past couple of decades (and HD + Japan nets 75-80% combined). I'd like to see the rest of the manufacturer numbers, as I find it hard to believe all four of Japan's marks would be sporting single digit representations --- low single digits at that --- to even make this possible.

This goes along the lines of "50% of marriages end in divorce" type statistics.

Harley-Davidson's "market" is 'Heavy Motorcycles', meaning those over 601cc. For that segment of the overall market, 49.5% is actually down from the position H-D has traditionally held.

I'm seeing far more Harley's on the highway up here compared to any other motorcycle brand :/ like 3 times as many or more. I just assumed it's because they probably get a better deal on insurance.

my insurance company is trying to near double my premiums this year for absolutely no reason other then the change of ownership of State Farm. They are about to lose my business.

If that were the case I would buy it, but the article only mentions "US market share" not "US big bike market share". As far as total market share goes they have traditionally held top or second place for the past two decades selling niche market bikes against the others with their full line ups, with Honda dropping behind only in more recent years.
