Installing front cam chain guide in 82 Suzuki GS 650

Cylinder gasket was leaking and I was told I could ride all I want if I fix it. I'm trying to put it back together and cannot seem to figure out how to install the front cam chain guide. Help! There must be a trick....

    Here is a scary thought,
:I think the front cam chain guide is the easy one to install, it should just hang down from the top, suspended by a brass pin inset into one end of the guide.

and now this is where some smart ass tells you to consult the service manual,
which I think is difficult to find for free, for that particular model of bike, we tried that before somewhere on this forum.

I have the Clymer manual and it says the front guide should 'slip in.' Sounds simple, but I can't make it happen. I must be missing something simple.
    Did I say it's a 82 GS650GL?
