What was the best thing before sliced bread?

And, is it possible that the greatness of sliced bread, while undoubtedly great, has been slightly exaggerated?

And yes, I am very bored.

It is mind numbingly cold outside and I think I've got a slight case of cabin fever

    A good bread knife!!

LOL, it looks like it's going to snow here, I'm in SE Virginia! I've got a pot of lentil soup and a pot of pea soup cooking, and getting dinner ready too.

Oh, I see you're in Alberta. REALLY cold, I guess.....
    Still, I feel your pain.

Before sliced bread and before the bread knife came the greatest innovation known to man at the time...baked bread. That doughy unbaked bread just didn't work as well with peanut butter and jelly. :P

I'd say beer is a good candidate for the previous greatest thing.

The reason sliced bread dethroned it was because it greatly reduced the risk of accidents during drunken sandwich making.

In the end, regrets rarely come from things done, but from things not even tried.
