That sounds like a really nice bike: the kind of "starter" bike you could keep for some time. It's a shame his father didn't get to ride it more.

Thanks for the link, Logan-
My daughter happens to be in Chicago right now- If the bike is still available and he answers the e-mail, I'll send her the info and she may just go take a look. I was cramped on the 535 but it fit her very, very well and this one sounds like it's in very nice shape-
Er, that bike is in San Jose, CA...

XV535's are great bikes. I however, think that bad things happen to bikes (well any vehicle) that sits. Seals, rubber, gaskets, hoses, cables, cylinders, fuel all go bad faster in an unused bike.
I MUST stop skimming posts...that's twice in one week my mind processed something different than what was on the page!
BUT- thanks for the link FOR the Chicago area! I'm going to give her a ring tonight and let her know there are some around if she's interested in going to look. We seem to be having a minor shortage of good, used starter bikes in our immediate area, anyhow.
Stargazer, I've actually had better luck twice recouping my money on a bought new, sold pretty quickly bike than on the one used bike I bought and sold- in part because of what you mentioned. I didn't know enough about what to check at the time- once you do and if you're careful, used is a better financial deal. It's just tough waiting for the 'maintenance' to get done before you ride it!
