The only thing I can think of is something wonky with the default subscription mode. Have you checked that it's not set to "do not subscribe?"

When using heat you want to heat whatever the bolt is in more than you heat the bolt, that expands the hole more than the bolt, making it looser. Heating the bolt more than whatever it's in expands...
