Hi! Thanks again for your help. I didn't get a time frame from the doc and didn't bother asking about how long this would take. As an x-ray tech, I do know it can take awhile to heal. My first bout with this just came out of the blue after having ridden from work to Chipotle to meet some friends. No warning sign, just started hurting about an hour after I had stopped riding and was eating dinner. I drove to work for the next 5 days and it seemed to go away. About a month later it came back and I decided to just ride through it. Seemed to just go away. Now this time I don't even know when it started but when I tried to ignore it and keep riding, it continued to hurt with a vengeance. You are correct in that it is a Spica splint. It seems to do a good job at immobilizing the thumb but because it's my right hand, I find myself still doing as much as possible with it regardless. When I take off the splint to ice, I sometimes will push around to see what hurts and pushing at the base of the proximal phalanx about sends me into next week! I know...quit doing that! I have read as much as I can about this and it's more of an aggravation than anything. I guess I should be glad it's getting cold and I'm not as likely to ride as much but since I ride all year (unless it's slick out) I'm just bummin' about it. So thanks so much for helping me out. I'm even getting good at typing with 1 or 2 fingers on the right hand. Have a great week. Angie
