Ok guys. The jury's in. The Mustang seat is a keeper. Thanks for all your input last month. I got the Mustang over the Corbin because it was not as hard. I knew it would take time to break in. Now after about 800 miles, I can say my butt doesn't hurt after I finish a 250 mile ride.
I did find the seat uncomfortable during the break in period. The difference in the Mustang and the stock seat was that after about 150 miles, my butt was sore for a day afterward with the stock seat. When I got the Mustang my butt was only sore when I rode. When I got off it stopped almost immediately. After the break in period the seat is very comfy and much better over all than the stock seat.
That's the report. I recommend the Mustang. Just remember, it will take a break in period before you enjoy it.

Hi Scott-

Thanks for the report and glad you like the seat!

But now I'm totally confused...Most of what I've read claims the Mustang is 'immediately comfortable' and the Corbin takes time to break in and 'mold' to your behind. I'm going through the same choice right now- Mustang/Corbin on the Aero- it's tough to choose because both have 'loyal' followings!

Stay safe-

I guess everyone has a different butt! LOL!

I found the Mustang seat to be immediately comfortable. Husband just got a Corbin, definitely firmer, but hasn't rode but 30 miles on it and he didn't even try his stock seat.

x_cuesme, If you are really trying to choose, I found the Mustang put me up a little higher and the seat was certainly wider than the stock Aeros (which I wasn't happy about) but I am used to it now.

The Mustang is a wonderful, comfy seat but if I could do it over again, I would find a Corbin to sit on or test. I may have still made the same choice though.

i find my mustang seat more comfortable on my tail bone than the stock vstar seat, but it tends to press on the back of my legs a bit and i have to shift a bit to loosen it up.

The point is: your butt, my butt, her butt or his butt are all different and before you rush out and drop some serious $$ on a seat, find one and, as the fonz might say, sit on it...

I'm getting a Mustang over the Corbin for two reasons: 1) THe Mustang is supposed to be nicer faster, but more importantly 2) the Mustang seat is the same shape as my stock seat, which includes a sissy bar on the VN750. I have installed a higher sissy bar extension which sits on top of the seat. The Corbin seat has a higher sissy bar seat part than the stock seat and thus would not permit me to have the extension on the bike. The Mustang is teh same height as the stock. Thusl, I'm going Mustang. Would prefer to sit a bit lower (which the Corbin would do) but I can live with it.

I've only got 100 miles on my Mustang Vintage Wide, and I'm starting to get used to it. It's really comfy, but I have to get used to the new seating position I'm in. The fact that I'm sitting a little higher and seemingly a little further back, my short arms feel a little over extended. I'll get used to it soon enough. Can't wait until it's REALLY broken in. :)

Wow- lots of Mustang seaters out here!

I don't mind the 'higher'- I'm long legged- but I'm not sure I want to be pushed further back on the Aero. Thanks for all the comments on it though- Tomato, I'm sure I'd get used to it but I wouldn't like a wider seat either.

Yes, I definitely have to get one or the other- it may take another month or so- because I simply can't tolerate the stock Aero seat for long. I road about 70 miles on Saturday and my back actually hurt- I've never had that happen before, on any of the bikes. The seat just seems to put me into a 'slouch' I can't get out of and I'm constantly wiggling around trying to get comfortable on it.

Wish I COULD sit on both of them- particularly on my bike!- but that isn't going to happen. I'm just going to have to hope I choose right! I'm sure either will be a major improvement!

Stay safe-

Look at all the happy butts dancin' down the street
Doo! Doo! Doo! Lookin' at their back door
(Apologies to John Fogerty)

PS Love my Mustang seat. On the Intruder I thought it moved me up and forward just a hair, little enough that it was hard to tell if it was my imagination or not. Don't know about the difference on other bikes. But the improvement in comfort was definitely not just my imagination.

Imagination sets in, pretty soon I'm singin'
Doo! Doo! Doo! Lookin'...
(never mind) ;)

Nancy, I could be wrong about sitting farther back. I'm slightly out of proportion. My legs are long but my arms are a little short. My arms could be outstretched only because I'm sitting higher, not because I'm sitting back. If I lean forward a little I feel more relaxed. Your Aero and my Shadow Spirit are very similar, so this seat could be fine for you. Or, you could avoid the "Wide" models of the various Mustang seats. They are not actually wider, but turn up a bit at the edges. I opted for that one thinking I'd have a little support under my thighs.

Ha- my thighs need all the support they can get! ;-)

Friend sent over some pictures of his Aero with a Mustang solo and saddle bag set up- looked really sharp.

Unfortunately, there aren't many options for the Aero 750 in either seat line- Corbin solo, Corbin Stinger, Corbin tourer ($$OUCH$$) and Mustang touring seat- solo or with passenger. With the model just starting it's second year of production, after-market accessories aren't real plentiful yet.

By the time I get home (anyone in Schaumburg IL???) I'll have an idea of 'tax damages' and hopefully be able to order my seat within another week or two...right now I'm leaning towards the Mustang simply because it's $100 cheaper for a solo- touring is about the same as the Stinger...Just seems ridiculous to spend that much $$$ on a SEAT!!!

(okay... Look at all the happy butts dancing down the street )

That's what I used to think, until I got my Mustang and wished I had had done it years sooner.

It is some bucks, so whether it's worth it or not is a personal decision and does depend on how much time you're going to spend in the saddle, and balancing that against your financial situation.

FWIW, So far, I've never heard of anyone who got one who didn't think it was worth it.

I'm now CONVINCED! Since H is all for it (due to 'experiencing' the Aero seat!) I'm going to order one when I get home-

I'll just go with "Mustang- Because my butt is WORTH it!" :)

which Mustang did you decide on getting?

Mustang will be the solo- it's the touring seat with just the driver seat- plain, I think, as I don't have studs on anything else on the bike and am not really planning to go that route-

But H had a good suggestion- when I get back, we're going to shop the lots a bit and see if we can find used bikes with Corbin and Mustang seats- and 'sit test' them. Won't be the same as my bike, but at least it will give me an idea of the general 'feel'.

So Mustang- probably!

I went and sat on used bikes with Corbins and Mustangs. In general, the Mustangs were softer and that helped me in deciding. At 51, I won't be gettin' any younger so I went for the softer seat.

On my Sabre 1100 the one thing I didn't care for is that the Mustang seat moved me slightly forward. I have long legs and like sitting further back. It also did raise me up a little, which doesn't bother me except for putting me further over my windshield.

The Mustang also has a thicker padding around the back of the seat that also tends to keep me pushed forward a little more. I got mine with the driver's backrest. At first I didn't like it because it doesn't allow me to slouch. Now it's very nice on longer rides. It also folds down so when you get on...well...never mind....:)

I would definately consider the driver backrest option if you're going to tour. I know it's more bucks. I think mine (Mustang Wide Touring with studs, conchos and driver's backrest) new was about 600.00.

Since Karen rides herself, I'll just wait on the passenger backrest and sissy until she doesn't want to ride herself.

Nancy, to confuse you more, LOL.........like Rhonda noticed, I am sitting a little further back on my bike.

That darn stock Aero seat! Absolutely love it for the first 20 minutes of a ride!

Okay, question- Got to be a few of you out here!

Listening to everyone's descriptions-

Is a Mustang saddle kind of comparable to riding in a Western saddle, where as a Corbin is more like hunt seat or maybe even saddle seat? (English saddle?)

Xcuse,
(Mustang - western: corbin - english)
Yes. Very much when you look at them. Since I've never ridden english, I can't comment on the ride.
Excellent observation on the visual build of the saddle.
