Julia & I will be in Helen this weekend - arriving Friday night, leaving Sunday morning if any of the locals are around this weekend.

EDIT to add, staying at the Alpine Village Inn.

Layli and I may meet you guys up there. Chances are less than 100% because she is moving into her new office this weekend... and I have to help.

That would be great! I thought some of the Atlanta crowd might be up for some mountain riding this weekend.

I'm in. John, I emailed a possible route for Saturday but I'm up for anything. As long as it involves a lot of miles!

We're planning on leaving Charlotte around 1:30-2 on Friday. That should put us into Helen by 6:30-7

Chance of rain here on traveling days would be 50% on Friday and 60% on Sunday. Might be worth it for only a 10% chance on Saturday in the beautiful N. GA mountains. Who believes the Weather channel anyway. Let me work on Paul when he gets up.

Dang, I just looked at his palm and he has 3 closings Friday afternoon. Maybe he can shuffle them.

Boohoo, it looks unlikely that we will be able to make it. John, if things change I will call you on your cell.

Hope you guys have a terrific time...I LOVE N. GA MTs!!!

IF I am not under my truck sat. Tie rods and ball joints are coming out tonight, and will hopefully have the new ones in fri night. I would be interested in meeting and riding sat.

Karl - Excellent route!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could get up early and superslab it to Helen, meet up. I probably wouldn't stay the night. That's about my normal weekend ride anyway!
I will not know until fri if I can meet you guys. So decide on a time and place sat, post it, and if I can make it I will get word to Karl.

Layli and I will not be riding, but we could meet up for a sit down on Saturday if time and location is provided.

I've never been there, so I can't pick any place.

If know a good place, hopefully within walking distance of the Alpine Village Inn, we could certainly be there for dinner.

(is there much better than a cold beer after a day of riding twisties?)

John's route is about 170 miles, about 5 hours riding time. Sunset tomorrow is around 6:30 so we probably want to leave Helen by 10, maybe earlier. I'm planning on getting up there by 9.

Weather.com says it's going to be mostly sunny and high of 60 in Helen tomorrow but at 9 it will only be about 40. Dress warm!

Larry, I hope you can make it! Give me a call if you want to ride up together. I'm hoping to leave from East Atlanta around 7.

It's looking good! My truck does not require front axel removal to get the ball joints out. We took one side apart in about 30 minutes last night. So I'm pretty sure we'll wrap it up tonight. I will call your cell this evening to confirm. Where's a good place to meet? Somewhere off 285?

And Karl, are you staying sat. night?

No, I'll be coming home for Saturday night.

Will you be coming up 675 to the perimiter? If so how about meeting at the Lavista Rd exit, exit 37? There is a Chevron right at the exit. From there we have 74 miles to Helen so how about meeting there at 7:30?

Karl, where are the pictures?

Here they are. (http://karl-l.smugmug.com/gallery/414082/1)

I got home at 11 pm with 329 miles on the clock for the day. Larry must have racked up at least 400! Thanks for inviting us along, it was a fun time. Dinner with your friends was a lot of fun, too bad they weren't there for the ride. The ride home wasn't bad at all. We had to detour around an accident north of Gainesville but I think the detour was faster & easier than going through Gainesville!

About 380 total. It was a great day of riding!
