Worked on the magna today. Gave into failure and I decide to reassemble her. It's been a few weeks since I started the thing, so I wanted to get it put back together and try and start it up. Well got all the polished pieces re-installed just fine, and I was weary to start it because I had to rewire the START/RUN switch, so I was expecting the worst (even though electrical is my forte).
Start, Start, Start, Start, Start
Nothin.
Start, Start, Start, Start, Start
Nothin.
Start, Start, Start, Start, Start
Nothin.
Start, Start, Start, Start, Start
BAM!!!!!!
ACK!
Yeah, shotguns rang out like a bell, I grabbed my nine, all I heard was shells. (80s music lovers will catch this)
So I presume the fumes just built up in the pipes, but yeah, not a fun experience. Especially when you're already on edge about the electrical.

lol! I did that with my car once. Cranked it over, nothing. Fiddled with it. Cranked it over, nothing. Bear in mind, this is a 1985 Olds Cutlass with a small block 383 Chevy engine and a centirfugal supercharger on it that ran high 11's on street radials. It wasn't exactly stock. Crank it over some more, nothing. Finally, I figure out my idiot "helper" friend is playing a joke on me and has hit the ignition disable switch. I turn it on, and have a complete brain fade. Crank it over, it fires, and literally blows the seams on the back of the mufflers! **BOOM** RUMBLE RUMBLE RUMBLE. It's funny now, but at the time .... :redangry3
OK... Im definately a babe o' the 80's. But Im stumped on the reference. Tell me! Help! Its killin me!
Dont make me start posting Michael Jackson lyrics to get all up in yo head!!

Hmm, now, how can I make my bike backfire intentionally? That would be a fun way to deal with tailgaters ... !

Buy a Volusia! ;-)
I think regular trailing-throttle backfiring is a standard feature of these bikes. Sounds just like a gun. I've gotten more or less used to it, but sometimes it still scares the crap out of me if I'm not expecting it.
One of these days I'm going to disable the &^%@#!! PAIR valve to make it stop.

If it's carbed, just flick the kill switch off to cut the ignition for a few seconds while you hold the throttle open, then flick it back on.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. No matter how weird the Gloved One was, is or will be, Thriller will always be super awesome.
Why?
Vincent Price uttering the immortal words "The funk of 40,000 years." Really, VP by himself is enought to register any song on the awesome scale, but that line just pushes it right over the edge. :)
