Went for the first practice ride in a long time yesterday and we found a new expert challenge rock! We haven't been out riding together for almost 2 years so this freshly discovered splat rock will wait for another day and a second catcher before Josh Josh can be the first to scale it. The ice age was very kind to us up here and left a great many erratics like this to play on, once it's ridden I think I will name this boulder 'The Joshua Rock'

That's a slight downhill approach to an undercut vertical rock face of maybe 8 feet and one and a half bike lengths on top to land on before dropping 6 feet off the other side. ...imagine having the riding skill, confidence and stones to 3rd. gear accelerate at a rock face like that :notworthy

BLAM-O!

That's pretty sick, man! What a challenge. Looking forward to more pics. Great name for the rock btw!

Participated in a really fun 2 day CMA Provincial Observed Trial series in Muskoka and Kawartha this past weekend, just thought some might like to see pictures:

Terrain at both venues was very similar to what I normally ride, but the rider loops were long.
I brought home the 1st place GrandVet trophies for both Days

Forgot to mention I wore my one piece spandex for the first time, nobody laughed, several commented I might be the only old guy that can pull it off and none of the guys made an inappropriate advance (one girl did grab my ass but I have no problem with that  ) so all in all it was a super fun weekend.

..still waiting for someone else to post pictures of me, :smug:
I just snapped a few frames with my iPhone of the other riders while I waited my turn to ride the sections.

I'll post some pics of me in my red spandex when they show up on the internet
you might need to adjust your internet content settings

...start of section 8 on Sept.24, was my favorite and most technical section for the day

Nice, thanks! I noticed the 1 finger on each lever...

Spandex makes your legs look thin. :ugly_tock You should see me in my gear, though - I'm already tall and stick thin as it is, without it...

Question from a newbie - how long is a trials course? I'd think that riding a bike that has no seat would get tiring after not very long...

Typically we start riding around 11 or 12 o'clock (noon), 1 point per minute penalty points are usually accumulated after 4 or 5 hours of riding. Number of sections is totally dependent on the venue or if checkers are available but typical is 10 sections, 4 loops. Sections are marked with red tape on right blue on left, sections are generally about 200 meters long and minimum as wide as your hadlebars. Loop distance also varies depending on the venue, 3 to 5 km loop is typical. Riders normally walk the sections the first time through so the first lap always takes far longer than the subsequent loops. I fuel up (~.3 liter) and hydrate after every lap.

Trials is a full body exercise, you end up with strong leg muscles and strong index fingers. If I ride for 3 days solid I can gain ~5 lbs. in muscle mass, eating doesn't seem to work for me, I eat a disgusting amount of food and still can't gain weight without a crazy amount of exercise.

Spandex 1 piece is surprisingly comfortable, it has a little fabric padding around the knees that I'm not used to, very cool, doesn't catch in the trees and almost feels like you are riding naked.
