We made the forum password protected, that way people had to make the effort to go in there, and if they don't want to see the post, removing the cookie means they won't.

Enter LEPR at your own risk.

...due to the Law, Ethics, Politics, and Religion content that tends to get things stirred up around here a bit.

Some members of this forum didn't have enough self control to not click on LEPR threads and urged leadership to add a password (I use leadership, cause I'm not sure if it was Tom or another mod who made the call to add it)
.
So a password was added.

Now those same members don't have enough self control to not type the password in, cause they still participate in LEPR threads.....

WTF????

Twasn't me. I think LEPR should die, not have a password. This is a motorcycle forum. You don't go to Hannity.com and post up about your bike do you?

You said something very very similar about bike forums a few years ago.

Why do I participate in it? It still leaks to the regular forum, and so much energy goes there I might as well participate. Eventually I'll have enough of it and walk away.

And it was Derrik that started the password. Judging by the thread he started about it he's just as fed up with it as a lot of us are.

If that was the case we wouldn't have the Bar or the word game thingies...there'd be no talk of wieners and foreskins, boobs, vaccuum cleaners, popsicles, ferriswheels, etc....

I know this is a motorcycle forum, but if all we could talk about was motorcycles???...Boring.

Hey, how do you like your motorcycle?

Good.

Hey, how does it ride?

Good.

Hey, how is the mileage?

Good.

I was making a point.

You wouldn't believe the level of bitching I heard from several people to that very point, then those same people like to treat this as a political battleground.

This was a very friendly place at one point. In many ways it still is. In many ways it's now very, very different.

I see very LEPR like sniping at people in the general forum, usually between the same people that are at each others throats in LEPR.

Frankly it's gotten damn tiring.

Some people will always look for something to bitch about. Always.

Some people will never find it within themselves to be friends with others if they have any ideological differences. Ever.

I just can't bring myself to bend over backwards in an effort to bow down and cater to the demands of either extreme of the spectrum. You have the right to make whatever choice you like, but once you start dictating what others are allowed to think and post, you'd better be able to present your deed and title to the forum.

Hey Larry - Derrick has sunk an incredible amount of his time, finances and resources into keeping BBO running, often when he had nearly any of which to spare. Let's show him the respect he's earned.

I do like the LEPR section and I think it's good to have it for opening up lines of conversation that some folks do not want to deal with. Keeps it in a tidy section that can be entered...or not. Creating a password to keep it off the New Post option is a creative solution to the participate if you wish.

Folks that poach the candid say-anything attitude from LEPR and ooze it back to the main sections ought to be stripped and tickled by feathers till they pee on themselves.

I'm eeevil that way.

You are inferring that I am letting the Democrats go, and harping on the Republicans.

The LEPR colony wasnt started summer of last year as it was. If there were anti-bush threads, they would have sunk into the mix of the entire lounge forum. Along with that, because the LEPR colony was formed, more people have become more vocal about these such issues.

While I dont feel it is a valued addition to this site, it does allow some sort of ice breaking, such as Chrystal mentioned. With that said, it really is on a short leash, and those who choose to visit it, need to have the thick skin necessary to hear what goes on there. That includes you larry.

I do. I can handle it. Read my sig. You don't see me posting threads like "kill the LEPR colony" or "its ruining BBO". Quite the contrary. I have learned more about BBO members there than anywhere else on BBO. I like the fact that I can get a little insight into people that see things differently than I.

One of the reasons I suggested we start a LEPR thread was the dominance of LEPR posts in the general forum (the lounge mostly).

The members dissing the LEPR forum have seem to forgotten that era in BBO history.

PS...

1. I certainly wish folks would do a better job of leaving the LEPR stuff in LEPR. That would include both vague and not-so-vague references in other areas and also in "signatures" that show up in all your posts.

2. If we go down the road of eliminating LEPR and banning LEPR like posts, those type topics will inevitably come up within other areas and threads. With the then necessary heavy moderation and debate about that ensuing.

Frankly for me the LEPR Colony has promoted understanding through communication. There is a tendency in the media to polarize folks...create an 'us' and 'them'...if you don't have certain political beliefs not only are you stupid but you are probably evil.

Now I might think that Tom and Bill fer instance..are misguided in their politics...or not... but there is no way I think they are stupid and I certainly think they are good people...the very best in fact.

We all let out egos put our asses on our shoulders at times...but I have seen a lot of laughing at ourselves go on in the LEPR pages too...and apologies issued and accepted.

PS. I really got into it with someone a couple of years ago NOT in LEPR. I remember LDS writing that he was sure if I met the person I was crossing swords with we'd be friends. I reflect on that from time to time...

Hmmmm...well my nom de paix was "El Supremo" and my crew would greet me as I approached my aircraft (Blackhawk or Huey) by genuflecting and repeating "El Supremo, El Supremo...we are not worthy, we are not worthy" in a respectful and supplicating tone...as, I might add, was appropriate.

My nom de guerre in an actual guerre so to speak, varied with events. My official call sign was 'Knight 18' indicating I was a Red Knight (1st Platoon) Aircraft Commander in the 114th Assault Helicopter Company. My inside moniker was 'Lizard' or 'Lizard King' after my habit of replying to the question 'can you do this or that' mission wise that "I can do anything" (from a line in a popular Doors song) in typical youthful bravado.

However after I taunted a senior officer that was twice my size into a fist fight (mostly his fists and my hard head, but he went to the hospital and I did not :smug:...)...I was rewarded with the appellation of "Psycho 6" indicating I was the chief crazy pilot, no mean feat in that place and time I might add...:) :shady:

Checkmate Stooooooo!!!!

Yeah, I really don't have any sort of smartass comeback to that...he pretty much covered all the bases, and it was a badass story to boot.

I concede the field, Seņor Loco Supremo.

The behavior or misbehavior that earned me that nickname could probably only be tolerated in a war zone desperate for passable pilots...:)

I gladly hand it on to some other swaggering rebellious arrogant kid that hasn't figured out that making reality your friend is a good idea...particularly in the military....:shady:

I LOVE YOU!!!

Tom

Now that we've gone public with our love, do I have to fear your wife coming to Wisconsin and kicking my ass????

Oh! Hahahahah...

Sorry, if I find myself at a loss for words, I usually assume I've lost the battle of (nit)wits. OBX, your account of how you earned your callsign was every bit as Hollywood as I could have hoped. What great stories your grandkids have to look forward to!

Although I recommend you save the one about the Thai hairdresser, the blind skunk, and the industrial-sized tub of mayonnaise until they're 18.

She's perfectly fine with my love for others, and their love for me... up to a point!
As long as we don't cross that, we'll both be fine! ;)

As an aside and going back a bit in this thread...

I want to say to my "opponents" in LEPR who have referenced me specifically, that I feel exactly the same way about you guys!

And in the spirit of Easter and Spring and new beginnings. I'd also like to publicly reiterate an apology to another member here with whom I was guilty of a severe lapse of judgement. (Wasn't about LEPR, at least not directly)

Lapse of judgement?

I haven't yet met a human being not guilty of that offense. Of course, I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but IMNSHO anyone who'd require reiteration of a sincere apology from a friend...well, I can hardly imagine them being worthy of one's friendship anyway.
