View Full Version : Bicycle computer on your motorcycle?

My motorcycle doesn't have a gas gauge or clock. I've looked at gas caps that are electronic, but they're very expensive. So are the little clocks that you can get for motorcycles. I read on another site where people have used bicycle computers on their motorcycles. The computers have a trip meter that could be used as a reminder to fill up, it's not a perfect solution but I thought it might help. I've been lucky so far, I've only had to hit the reserve switch twice. It's easy enough to check the tank before you leave, but it's also easy to loose track of time/miles when your riding along. Has anyone ever used one of these on their motorcycle? I thought this might be a less expensive way to kill two birds with one stone.

Yes, the Sigma is a popular add on for bikes. I wouldn't get the RF ones, though. A friend of mine tried one and it didn't work too well with his bike, so he passed it on and went with a wired unit. FWIW, the guy that got the RF one supposedly likes it, so maybe Pat messed up the installation somehow. I haven't personally seen it work, though.
If you just want a cheap clock for the bike, you can get a waterproof watch and mount the face unit to the bike. It's not pretty, but it works well, and is much cheaper than the same units that are designed for motorcycles.

That Sigma is a nice choice, but you can get a Garmin eTrex for not to much more. It will give you Speed, trip, ODO, Time, Sunrise, sunset - not to mention all the stuff a GPS can do.

Sigma BC1200. Great add-on, given the re-gear screwing up the already out from the factory speedo.

IIRC, I paid about $30 for this one. Easier to attach than the GPS too, I've got mine clipped to the clutch line end.
Edit: Oh yeah, it has a Trip ODO, Full ODO, Max speed, Avg Speed, Dist/Day, Clock, Ride time, and Stopwatch.
