Not much to say, except that there is a notable lack of Yamaha in this particular section (even in the description!). Let's hear it for the company that makes everything from motorcycles to pianos!

EDIT: I guess I ought to post up a pic of my bike...

Thassa nice bike Anthony! Good to see you made it over here to this forum. As for Yamaha, the thing that really keeps me coming back to them in my search for my next bike is the awesome valve maintenance schedule they have. 26K miles in between valve adjustments, right? Yeah, I'm looking real hard at the YZF600R now. A nice looking, fully faired 600cc sportbike with decent ergos and a fully adjustable suspension for around $7K, sounds like quite a deal to me. Plus I think that Yamaha's tuning fork logo looks so cool.

Yeah, that valve adjustment schedule is great. The only drawback is the shim design that requires a LOT of work to get them adjusted.

The YZF-600R certainly looks like a great bike. Of course, there are other options for the FZ6. The '03 R6 (and maybe other years) front end is almost a direct swap with the FZ6 forks. A couple hundred bucks for the front end on ebay, some spacers for the brake calipers, and you've got a fully adjustable front end. Still haven't figured out a good swap for the rear shock, though.

Heck yeah, especially that monster roosting 400! I hope there are still rideable versions of that bike once I get around to riding on the dirt (after several years on wee little dirt bikes).

It's a handful to ride, but I get soundly spanked on a regular basis by the newer stuff (especially KTMs) in offroad races...

Yes, that might be an awsome motorcycle but it makes for a lousy piano!

and it only comes with a couple keys

Yamaha is just an awesome company, they excel at everything they do. I don't think they make a bad product anywhere in their lineup (and I'm not just talking motorcycles). They really do things right, as an engineer I really respect that.

I am not really keen on any specific make. Have had a number of Yamaha, Honda & Suzy bikes though never a Kwacker. Also a lot of Yamaha dirt irons not to mention Spanish & Brit comp irons.

While I do have a '97 Yamaha YZF600r I sold my Suzy GSXR-750 for the oncomming Honda 929 as I like how it was coming out along with a more sensible riding position rather then the more extreme lean forward of the Yamaha R-1 FOR I had enough of that with the GSXR-750.

Not to many yrs left for riding, due to age, & once I looked at the line-up of the four Jpn makers in '05 I felt like what the heck I will go for a '03 Honda 954, in August of '04, for I sold my '87 Yamaha TZR-250 for a good price & that would leave me with three bikes.

I'm a highway rider in this Mtn roads of the Cdn Rockies & said sportbikes handle well & are to my liking. Some may look at the HARD saddles of the Honda 929 & 954, but in actual fact they are far more comfortable, to me, then the softer saddle of the 600r. After all I like to go out on bikes about every day of the riding season bar Sunday or long week-ends & cover 6 to 8 hrs each day.

Here is my current ride, a Yamaha 94 XJ600 SecaII.
http://quackxp.freeshell.org/images/MySecaII.jpg

Im also thinking about the FZ6 a bit down the road. The preload only adjustment on the rear are keeping me on the fence between it and the Z750S. But I have a whole year before I accuially buy so ill just keep dreaming of both of them.

I also have a XV535. A 1993. I think it's unfortunate that Yamaha doesn't make something in the 800 range. Since I don't need/want an 1100 for the kind of riding I do, the VStar won't give me much or any additional performance.

Just got my Road Star in April. I have put almost 3,000 miles on her since. She is a dream and much better than the 700 Intruder I had years ago.

The wife and I can ride and the bike's so big I can barely feel her back there.

I will say I was scared to death to ride her home for the first time, but after a few days/weeks of parking lot riding she and I fit like a glove.

Be safe!

Does Yamaha have any sort of model for the new rider? Seems like the smallest thing I've seen from them is a 600cc middleweight.

Hi HockeyCoach:

You need to tell us more about what you want and what kind of riding you're going to do. There is a HUGE difference between a 600 cruiser and a 600 sportbike. I'm a cruiser and a Yamaha fan myself (1993 Yamaha Virago XV535). The smallest cruiser Yamaha currently sells in the US is the Virago 250 but the VStar, it's a 650 cruiser) is also considered a starter bike by many. The 250 cruiser may become to small for you in a very short period of time. It all depends on what type of riding you do. I sometimes ride with a lady who rides a Honda Rebel. It's also a 250 and she loves it. It does all she needs it to do for her style of riding including some 200 mile Saturday or Sunday rides.

Yep, and if you're wondering about the sportbike side of things, there isn't a good starter option from Yamaha currently. However, if you can get your hands on an older Seca II, I hear those are beginner-friendly. You'll see some recommendations for the FZ6 as a starter bike, but I don't recommend it.
